Christopher Anthony Mellers is the founder of OBDAssistant, operating under Mellers Tech Limited in Auckland, New Zealand.
Christopher worked as a mobile mechanic — diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing vehicles directly at the roadside and at customers' homes rather than inside a static workshop environment. Working in mobile field conditions requires rapidly identifying the root cause of complex mechanical and electrical symptoms with limited physical equipment, relying on logical fault isolation rather than speculative part replacement.
Engineering from Trade Experience
OBDAssistant was built directly out of that mobile mechanical trade experience. Rather than building software that simply reads diagnostic trouble codes and dumps raw, unformatted ECU data on a phone screen, Christopher engineered OBDAssistant around how a working technician actually narrows down a vehicle fault.
In practical field diagnostics, a fault code such as P0171 (System Too Lean) is not an instruction to blindly replace an oxygen sensor. A trade mechanic cross-references freeze frame logs, inspects Short-Term and Long-Term Fuel Trims across engine load ranges, and systematically checks for intake vacuum leaks before touching hardware. OBDAssistant embeds this structured diagnostic process into its conversational AI and telemetry analysis engine.
In addition to developing OBDAssistant, Christopher built Mobile Auto Works, a workshop management application created to streamline trade operations. This development background reflects a continuous focus on solving practical automotive workflow challenges through software engineering.
